Maratha Reservation, Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange has once again threatened a hunger strike. On Saturday, he announced that he will begin an indefinite fast from July 20 if the government fails to grant reservation to the Marathas. Jarange has urged the Marathas to gather in Mumbai for the next phase of the movement, the schedule of which will be announced on July 20.
At a rally in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, he said if their demands were not met by midnight, the protest for Maratha reservation would resume on July 20 at Antarwali Sarti village in Jalna district. “The one-month deadline for the government to implement Maratha reservation has ended today. Today I tell the government that nine demands of the Maratha community must be met. This is just the end of the first phase,” he said.
There will be a protest in Mumbai
Manoj Jarange stressed that if the government fails to grant reservation by Saturday night, the agitation will be resumed on July 20 and he will also join the protest in Mumbai. Jarange is leading the protest demanding issuance of Other Backward Class (OBC) certificates to all Kunbis (agriculturists) and their blood relatives to recognise them as Marathas. Jarange said, “We do not want to come to Mumbai and also do not want to defeat their 288 candidates. This is the last chance for the government. I want the power of the state to remain in the hands of the poor Maratha community.”

Jarange announced that he would reveal his further steps next Saturday. He warned that if Marathas from Marathwada come out, Mumbai residents may have to leave the city. He said, if reservation is not given and people from the Maratha community reach Mumbai, 300 km area will be needed to accommodate them. The day I start the indefinite fast, I will declare whether to contest the election or defeat 288 candidates and will also tell the date of going to Mumbai.
