Changes in tough times

The major reshuffle in the army has taken place at a time when the country is going through a difficult time. Just yesterday, the Bangladesh Army Chief had announced the formation of an interim government in Bangladesh. Yesterday, after Sheikh Hasina’s resignation and leaving the country, the Army Chief held a press conference. During this, he told the protesters that we will fulfill your demands. Stay away from vandalism. If you people come with us, we will change the situation. Stay away from violence, anarchy and conflict. We have spoken to all the party leaders today.

Know why violence broke out

Violence had erupted several times in Bangladesh over the issue of reservation. The protesters demanded that the quota system reserving 30 percent of government jobs for the relatives of the 1971 freedom fighters be abolished. Earlier, when violence broke out, the court had reduced the quota limit. But the violence did not stop and now the protesters are demanding the resignation of Sheikh Hasina. So far more than 11,000 people have been arrested.

Authorities claimed that protesters attacked police stations, ruling party offices and residences of its leaders and burned several vehicles. The government ordered the shutdown of meta platforms Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram.

Earlier in July too, violence had taken place during student protests. At that time, a policeman from Dhaka’s Munshiganj district, while talking to the media, had said that the whole city had turned into a battlefield.

Sheikh Hasina is currently in India

Amidst this uproar, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country and came to India. She is still in India. People familiar with Sheikh Hasina said that Hasina has informed India about her possible decisions. It has also come to light that Sheikh Hasina’s family members are also in Finland, that is why she has also considered leaving for the northern European country.
