Mahua Moitra challenged Delhi Police

Mahua Moitra, After the National Commission for Women (NCW) initiated legal action against TMC MP Mahua Moitra for her remarks against NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma, she challenged the Delhi Police to act immediately on the suo motu orders. Mahua Moitra said in a post on Instagram that Delhi Police please act immediately on these suo motu orders. If you need me to make a quick arrest in the next 3 days, I am in Nadia. I can hold my umbrella myself.

TMC MP Mahua Moitra made derogatory remarks

Earlier, Mahua Moitra had sparked a new controversy when she posted a derogatory reply on Instagram to a video that showed NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma arriving at the Hathras stampede site with a man holding an umbrella over her head. Commenting on a video of the NCW chairperson arriving after the recent stampede in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, Mahua wrote that she is too busy handling her boss’s pyjamas. On Friday, the NCW took suo motu cognizance of the derogatory remarks made by Moitra against NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma.

In a press release, the NCW said that these vulgar comments are not only derogatory but also a serious violation of a woman’s right to dignity. After careful consideration, the Commission has determined that Moitra’s remarks fall under Section 79 of the Indian Justice Code, 2023. Condemning the derogatory statements, the NCW said that the derogatory nature of these comments, particularly those directed at the Chairperson of the NCW during her official visit to Hathras, is highly reprehensible and urges strict legal action against Moitra.

Proceedings started against Mahua Moitra

The NCW said it has initiated legal proceedings against Moitra and lodged a formal complaint with the Delhi Police. A letter has been sent to the Lok Sabha Speaker in Parliament, stating that the comments made by Moitra are condemnable in the strongest terms. The NCW has urged the Speaker to investigate the matter and take appropriate action against Moitra.
