Maharashtra: 10 people were duped of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of getting them government jobs in Thane

A case of cheating 10 people in Maharashtra on the pretext of getting them jobs has come to light. Regarding this case, the police said that a gang cheated 10 people of Rs 13.4 lakh by promising them jobs in a government hospital in Thane city of Maharashtra. A case has been registered against four people on charges of cheating.

Based on a complaint by one of the victims, the police on Friday registered a case against Mohammed Raza Abdul Rashid Shaikh, Abhijeet Kulkarni and Prakash Durve under provisions of the Indian Penal Code, an official from the Naupada police station said, according to a news agency report.

According to the complaint, the accused had been taking money from the victims through online transactions since January 2023, promising to get them a job in the X-ray billing department of a government hospital.

The official said that the accused had allegedly prepared fake documents of offer letters, training and joining letters, appointment letters etc. issued by the Thane Municipal Corporation Commissioner.

The racket came to light after the victims approached the government office and met senior officials to check the authenticity of the letters, he said, adding that investigation into the matter was underway.
