Liquor scam in Andhra too… Naidu said- Jagan government suffered a revenue loss of 19000 crores, handed over the investigation to CID

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday alleged that the liquor policies introduced by the previous YSRCP government had caused a loss of Rs 18,860 crore to the state exchequer in the last five years. He said that the investigation into these irregularities will be handed over to the CB-CID.

In his speech, Naidu said, “They (YSRCP government) had promised prohibition with gradual reduction in shops… but there was no commitment and the objective was also different.” The CM said Andhra Pradesh consistently recorded lower liquor revenues during the YSRCP government compared to Karnataka and Telangana.

Excise department will be reorganized

According to Naidu, the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government had implemented ‘manipulative policies’ for personal gain with misleading promises and several other irregularities. Naidu alleged that 1.78 crore liters of illicit distilled liquor was seized between 2019 and 2024, resulting in increased crime and adverse effects on health.

The CM said that the excise department will be reorganized. Apart from this, measures like transparent procurement policy, amendment in bar and retail licenses, re-examination of liquor pricing policy will also be taken.

CB-CID will investigate

Naidu further said that the alleged irregularities will be investigated by the CB-CID and the case may be referred to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) given the amount of money involved. The Andhra Pradesh Assembly passed two bills including the Andhra Pradesh Land Ownership Repeal Bill, 2024 and the Dr YSR University of Health Sciences (Amendment) Bill, 2024.
