Lady doctor rape-murder case: Fire of protest reaches Delhi, IMA issues ultimatum, demand for CBI investigation

The fire of protest against the case of brutality against a lady doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, West Bengal has reached Delhi. Doctors of Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital took out a candle march demanding a CBI inquiry into the case. Along with this, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has given an ultimatum of 48 hours to complete the investigation. Along with this, a warning of nationwide protest has been given.

IMA said, “We demand that the police officers take action within 48 hours and with precision, otherwise we will be forced to launch a nationwide action. A fair, transparent and sensitive investigation is needed. A two-day ultimatum is given to arrest the culprits. After this, the Indian Medical Association will hold a nationwide protest. The entire medical community of India is shocked by this brutal murder.”

In this case, Kolkata Police has arrested a suspected criminal, who was sent to 14 days of police custody by the local court today. A case has been registered against the accused under Section 64 (rape) and 103 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. He was produced in Sealdah court and police custody was sought for interrogation. The judge accepted the request of the prosecution.

After this, the accused was sent to 14 days of police custody till August 23. The body of the victim was found inside the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College in North Kolkata on Friday. According to the preliminary post-mortem report, she was sexually assaulted before being killed. Police said that the arrested accused is an outsider. He used to visit various departments of the medical college easily.

Police said that the activities of the accused are very suspicious. He seems to be directly involved in the crime. Police found a torn part of a Bluetooth earphone, through which they were able to reach the accused. PGT and female doctors have also identified the culprit from CCTV footage. Sources have revealed that the name of the accused is Sanjay Roy, who is a civic volunteer by profession. Such volunteers are contract employees.

A police officer said, “Now we are trying to find out who else was with the accused. Necessary medical tests can be conducted on him. In connection with the investigation into the death of the woman doctor, the police also questioned two intern doctors on Friday night. According to the autopsy report, the victim was bleeding from both eyes and mouth. There were injuries on the face and nails were stuck. There was also blood flowing from her private part.
