Kolkata incident: ‘He used to beat his wife, quarrel with everyone…’, neighbors reveal about Sandeep Ghosh

There is anger across the country over the rape and murder case of a lady doctor in Kolkata. Doctors are on strike on the streets and demanding security for themselves. Meanwhile, the neighbors have made a big claim about the site of the incident, i.e. RG Kar Medical College’s former principal Dr. Sandeep Ghosh. Neighbors say that Dr. Sandeep Ghosh used to beat his wife at his former residence in Barasat. Ghosh beat his wife so badly that she was covered in blood. At that time, his wife had given birth to a child 14 days ago. Eyewitnesses remember the horror of Barasat about 12 years ago.

Aaj Tak has spoken to the people of the area in Barasat’s Hridaypur where Sandeep Ghosh stayed for 2 years. In those days Sandeep Ghosh was the principal of Barasat’s Arjun Medical College. He stayed in Barasat for two years. According to the neighbors, he had bought a house and was living there with his wife, which he sold and left. According to his neighbors, Ghosh used to beat and misbehave with his wife often. According to the information, after Ghosh sold this house, the house has been sold twice more. The current owner has no information about Sandeep Ghosh’s case, what Ghosh or his family did here. However, neighbors claim that his behavior was not good from the beginning.

Eyewitnesses told the 12 year old incident

Speaking exclusively to Aaj Tak, neighbours said that they were eyewitnesses to a bad fight between Sandeep Ghosh and his wife. They claimed that Ghosh beat his wife badly 14 days after she gave birth to the child. Neighbours claimed that the woman suffered a lot of bleeding after the cesarean stitches burst. Many neighbours had also protested against this.

Sandeep Ghosh’s former neighbour Ashish Banerjee said that his attitude towards his wife was not good. He is also an eyewitness to the assault.

Banerjee said, ‘Once there was a heated argument between me and Sandeep Ghosh, his behaviour was bad. I later came to know that he was a doctor. Ghosh lived in this house for about two years and an incident happened there where he beat his wife so badly that she started bleeding. At first the local people did not say anything because it was a family matter, but later everyone came out and started protesting against what happened, many people came out even at night. This beating happened at a time when Ghosh’s wife had given birth to a child just 14 days ago.’

Another woman who lives just behind Sandesh Ghosh’s old house in Mallikbagwan, Barasat, said that she and her son also witnessed the incident of beating of Ghosh and his wife and protested against it.

‘Ghosh’s behaviour was not friendly’

Another neighbour said, ‘Ghosh lived here for a very short time and then sold his house. It was in this house that he beat his wife. The whole area gathered. I don’t remember exactly but it was either when his wife was pregnant or right after the child was born. He never mingled with anyone.’

It is worth noting that at the moment Sandeep Ghosh’s troubles do not seem to be decreasing. CBI is continuously questioning him. Meanwhile, Kolkata Police has also registered a case of corruption against Sandeep Ghosh in Tala police station. Debal Kumar Ghosh, Senior Special Secretary of the Health Department of the Government of West Bengal, has registered this case against Sandeep Ghosh through a written complaint.

According to the information, former principal Sandeep Ghosh has been accused of irregularities, taking illegal commission and manipulation in appointments. The investigating agency is continuously questioning former principal of RG Kar Medical College Sandeep Ghosh. On Monday, CBI questioned Dr. Ghosh for 13 hours. Sandeep Ghosh may also undergo polygraph test

It is noteworthy that the role of Sandeep Ghosh in the rape and murder case of the lady doctor is also under investigation. In this case, the CBI wants to conduct a polygraph test on him as well. For example, discrepancies have been found in the statements of the victim’s family and the former principal of the hospital, Dr. Sandeep Ghosh. Due to different statements, it is being said that the CBI can conduct his polygraph test. However, the approval for his polygraphy has not been received from the court yet.

Who is Sandip Ghosh?

Sandip Ghosh is the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. This is the same hospital in Kolkata where the trainee doctor was brutally raped. Born and brought up in Bongaon, about 80 km from Kolkata, Dr Ghosh completed his studies from Bongaon High School in 1989. Later he pursued medical education from RG Kar Medical College and obtained a graduate degree in 1994. His early education and professional journey were quite good. However, Dr Ghosh’s later career is full of controversies.

Several complaints have been sent to the state health department against Ghosh. An inquiry was also set up. The result was that Ghosh was transferred twice and both times he succeeded in getting the transfer order overturned. Serious cases like illegal use of dead bodies kept for post-mortem are involved against Sandeep Ghosh. Many times the college staff wrote letters to the health department regarding this but no action was taken.
