Kolkata incident: Demand for justice rising across the world, doctors on the streets in London too

After the brutality against the female trainee doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College, there is a cry for justice all over the world. Not only in India, but also in foreign countries, there is a demand for the harshest punishment for the accused. The cry for justice has now left India and reached Britain. Where many people gathered outside the British Parliament in London and pleaded for justice. During this, some had a garland in their hands for tribute and some had candles. Many people also came with banners etc. During this, Aaj Tak talked to these people who were protesting.

Dr. Deepti Jain said that I am in charge of the doctors’ committee in Britain. We never thought that we would have to protest like this. We have done many types of events before, but this is very emotional. We have all gathered here to demand justice. This protest is not only happening here but in 16 cities of Britain. Apart from this, such events are being organized at many places in America to demand justice.

He said that this will go global. We will continue our demand for justice and women’s safety and demand the harshest punishment for the criminals who committed this heinous crime, which destroyed the life of a trainee doctor. All of us doctors are more or less from here and we have trained in the same city and we have walked those corridors there, so it brings back a lot of memories. We have all been there.

Another doctor involved in the protest said that we all have been trained in Kolkata hospitals. The most important thing is that we thought that the hospital is the safest premises. I remember my mother used to tell me not to come home at midnight because it is not safe for you to work. I am there only. I studied from the same National Medical College, which is the Government College of Kolkata. My mother used to say then that do not come home at night, the hospital is safe. We never thought that something like this can happen inside the hospital. So we are sitting here with safety in the workplace.

A person involved in the protest told Aaj Tak that he never thought that such a bad incident could happen in our Kolkata city. I am not from that medical college but have studied from a different medical college. But my wife did her post graduation from the same medical college (RG Kar). And to be honest, only last week we were talking about the fact that we had gone there and know everything about the medical college. But we are not able to express in words that such an incident could happen inside it.
