Kolkata incident: CBI re-registered the case, officers will visit the spot on Wednesday

CBI has again registered a case in the case of rape and murder of a lady doctor in Kolkata. CBI officers will reach Kolkata from Delhi on Wednesday. After this, they will visit the crime scene with the forensic team. Kolkata High Court has handed over the investigation of this case to CBI. The court has ordered that Kolkata Police should hand over the CCTV footage and statements related to this case to CBI by 10 am on Wednesday.

The division bench headed by Chief Justice T S Sivagnanam said that the CBI investigation will be conducted under its supervision. The court said that even after five days, there has been no significant progress in the investigation. Therefore, the investigation is handed over to the CBI. On this, the lawyer appearing on behalf of the state government said that one person has been arrested in this case. Statements of more than 25 people, including several doctors and house staff, have been recorded.

The lawyer claimed that the investigation is being done in a proper manner. The bench said that it is disappointing that the then principal of the medical college, Sandip Ghosh, did not perform his duties properly. He has been asked to go on a long leave. There is also talk of giving this responsibility to another doctor in his place. Earlier, Kolkata Police had included a sharp officer to strengthen the SIT investigating the case.

DCP rank IPS officer Amit Verma was included in the 8-member SIT. Kolkata Police deployed 15 policemen in one shift to assist the SIT. A senior police officer claimed that the SIT is working 24×7. The investigation is going on in three shifts a day. Along with this, the head and superintendent of the Chest Medicine Department of the Medical College were called for questioning.

Police sources claim that many people were on duty that night when the victim was raped and murdered. Four of these people had also eaten food with the victim. All these people were called for questioning. Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal visited the medical college several times. He assured that a transparent investigation is being conducted. He had told that after committing the crime, the accused Sanjay Roy had gone back to his home.

He slept till late on Friday morning. After waking up, he washed the clothes he was wearing during the crime to erase evidence. During the search, his shoes were found, which had blood stains on them. There is no evidence of anyone else’s involvement in this incident except him. CCTV footage has also been examined. The forensic unit along with the SIT has collected samples from the seminar hall. The crime scene has also been recreated at the crime scene.
