Kolkata: BJP leader alleged that 4 students are missing, police denied the claim

The West Bengal Police on Tuesday denied the claim of Leader of Opposition in the state assembly Shubhendu Adhikari that four student activists were missing. The police made it clear that the four students have been arrested for being involved in a murder conspiracy and attempt to murder case.

Without naming anyone, the police said the disappearance allegation was false and claimed that the four accused students were planning to unleash large-scale violence during Tuesday’s ‘Nabanna Abhijana’.

Earlier in the day, the BJP leader had alleged that four student activists of the saffron party, who were supposed to reach Howrah station, were missing since midnight. Following this, the West Bengal Police posted on Twitter, ‘A certain political leader is trying to create a false story about four students who are missing since last night.

The truth is that no one is missing. The four were planning large-scale violence during the Nabanna campaign today and were involved in a conspiracy to commit murder and attempt to murder. They have been arrested in the interest of public safety and security, and their families have been informed.’

Speaking to the media later, Howrah Police Commissioner Pravin Kumar Tripathi said the four were arrested under BNSS Section 172 in a ‘preventive action by the police’ as they were involved in a conspiracy. Tripathi said they were arrested under preventive action because they were conspiring.
