The Delhi Police on Sunday arrested Abhishek Gupta, CEO and owner of RAU’s IAS Coaching Centre, and its co-ordinator Deshpal Singh. Three UPSC aspirants died after getting trapped in the flooded basement of the centre amid heavy rains. Soon after the arrest, both were produced in a magistrate court and sent to 14-day judicial custody. RAU IAS Centre is known as a top coaching centre for UPSC preparation in English medium. Who is Abhishek Gupta, owner of Rau Coaching?

Abhishek Gupta has been running this coaching for a long time. According to his LinkedIn profile, Abhishek Gupta has been the CEO and owner of Rau’s IAS Study Circle since February 2009. Prior to this, he worked as an analyst at Watson Wyatt from 2004 to 2006 and then worked at EvaluateServe for a year. Abhishek Gupta has also worked in the Corporate Solutions Department at Jones Lang LaSalle from 2007 to 2008. According to his LinkedIn profile, he studied at Modern School, Delhi between 1988 and 2001. Abhishek Gupta also obtained a bachelor’s degree from Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies between 2001 and 2004.

Coaching owner arrested

In this case, the police have registered an FIR and formed several teams to investigate the accident. The police have arrested the coaching center owner Abhishek Gupta and the coordinator and have registered a case against them under culpable homicide and other charges. It has been mentioned in the FIR that the drainage system on the road was not proper, due to which there was waterlogging on the road and later the water entered the basement.

Abhishek Gupta accepted his mistake

Coaching centre owner Abhishek Gupta has admitted that there was no drainage system in the basement, which led to the accident. The police asked Abhishek Gupta for permission documents for the library in the basement, which Abhishek did not have. Abhishek admitted that there was no drainage system in the basement. According to the FIR, when the rescue operation began, there was 3 feet of water in the slit basement, the students were trapped in the basement below, where the library was running. The NDRF team went into the basement (library) to retrieve the bodies, while DFS helped in pumping out the water.
