The Naib Singh Saini government of Haryana has finally released the schedule for the purchase of cotton. In fact, before the assembly elections were announced, Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini had promised the farmers to buy all the crops at MSP, but when the time for purchase came, the government started buying only eight crops of the Kharif season – paddy, millet, maize, moong, peanuts, sesame, tur and urad at MSP and cotton was not included in it.

As per the rules of the Central Government, cotton will be procured at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) through the Cotton Corporation of India.

Congress had also surrounded the Saini government
Chaudhary Aftab Ahmed, Deputy Leader of the Congress Legislature Party in the Haryana Assembly, had fiercely targeted the Saini government on this issue. Now after the news of ‘Kisan Tak’, damage control has started and a review meeting was held regarding the preparations for cotton procurement under the chairmanship of Dr. Raja Shekhar Wundru, Additional Chief Secretary of the Agriculture Department. Dr. Wundru directed that all possible support be provided to the Cotton Corporation of India in the cotton procurement process. All kinds of preparations have been made for procurement by the Cotton Corporation of India and the Haryana government, so that farmers will not face any problem in crop procurement.

20 procurement centers set up for cotton
It was told in the meeting that there are two main varieties of cotton in Haryana. These include medium long staple 26.5- 27.0 and long staple 27.5-28.5, which are to be procured. 20 procurement centres have been set up across the state for cotton. Procurement centres have been opened in Siwani, Digawa and Bhiwani in district Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri in district Charkhi Dadri, Bhatu, Bhuna and Fatehabad in district Fatehabad, Adampur, Barwala, Hansi, Hisar and Uklana in district Hisar, Uchana in district Jind, Kalayat in district Kaithal, Narnaul in district Mahendragarh, Meham in district Rohtak and Ellenabad, Kalanwali and Sirsa in district Sirsa.

Helpline number released
Preparations have started in the Mandis for procurement. For the convenience of the farmers, a helpline (1800-180-2600) has been started in the office of Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board, Panchkula. On which a call can be made for information about the procurement system. For example, if farmers want to know in which Mandi the procurement of maize or urad will take place, then its information will be available from here.
