Khudiram Bose: A name for living a life bigger than centuries at the young age of eighteen

Today, time is very fast. Both the country and the world are running. Challenges are everywhere. Exams are tough and in this century full of competition, students and youth do not get time to remember our rich heritage and glorious Indian past, especially the Indian freedom struggle. Our freedom movement is a part of our rich and glorious history, but there have been countless selfless, courageous freedom fighters whose contribution has not been highlighted or has been ignored.

The story of India’s freedom movement cannot be given a complete form without remembering these forgotten heroes. The celebration of the Amrit Kaal of India’s independence is incomplete if we do not remember those great sons and brave women of the country, because of whom we are independent.

How to convey to the new generation that the supreme sacrifice, infinite courage, unparalleled sacrifice and selfless spirit of our martyrs have given us freedom. Sudhir Azad is the simplest and clearest medium to convey this ‘how to reach’.

Dr. Sudhir Azad, the poet of Nadi, who has been awarded the National Youth Award and Madhya Pradesh Sahitya Academy Award along with other awards, has done research work on Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Main Khudiram Trailokyanath Bose’, a one-act play based on Khudiram Bose, ‘Shaheed-e-Azam’ – an epic poem on Sardar Bhagat Singh, ‘Krantimna’ – a children’s play based on Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, ‘Krantisant’ – a play based on Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, ‘Sher-e-Sindh’ – a play based on martyr Hemu Kalani, ‘Mera Naam Azad Hai’ – a one-act play on immortal martyr Chandrashekhar Azad, ‘Idam Rashtraay Idam Na Mam’, a review book on Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, ‘Krantivrati: Jhansi Ki Rani Lakshmibai’ epic and ‘Main Bharat Hoon’ – a collection of children’s poems full of nationalism are like his sacrifices in this yagya.

Losing his father at a young age, being brought up by his elder sister and being determined to devote everything for the nation’s welfare by making himself a person of such broad thinking and deep emotions amidst all the adversities of life! It is amazing! Shaheed Khudiram Bose is the name of living a life greater than centuries at the young age of eighteen. If there is a face of revolution, it is Shaheed Khudiram Bose. If there is a life-philosophy of self-sacrifice, then that life-philosophy is Shaheed Khudiram Bose. If there is a symbol of love for the nation, then that symbol is Shaheed Khudiram Bose. Shaheed Khudiram Bose is both the path and the path to be followed. His personality and work became a way of life for the freedom movement, especially for the revolutionaries.

In the preface of the book, Sudhir Azad writes that ‘I wanted to bring the personality and deeds of the great heroes of freedom into the minds of the children of the lower classes. With this objective, the idea of a play came to my mind. Since I had to get the play done by the small children, Shaheed Khudiram Bose suddenly came to my mind and I started writing a play on him. With time, I realized that it would be even better if I introduce Shaheed Khudiram Bose to the small children through a one-act play instead of a play. A personality as great as the Himalayas, just thinking about whom fills the heart with emotions and the head rises high with pride and arrogance. Now I wanted to inculcate the great life of Shaheed Khudiram Bose in the minds of my students.’

After the hanging of Khudiram Bose, the fear of the British Empire had ended. For hundreds of revolutionaries like Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Chandrashekhar Azad, Ashfaqulla Khan, Ramprasad Bismil, he was synonymous with an unwavering faith and unbeatable commitment.

In the court of Muzaffarpur Magistrate, Khudiram Bose was tried for throwing a bomb on the carriage of British Judge Kingsford and martyr Khudiram Bose was sentenced to death. From the viewpoint of the scope and structure of the one-act play, District Magistrate Woodman has been depicted as a lawyer. This play, replete with all the elements of a one-act play in its limited form and brief canvas, has effective and ideal possibilities of staging. The vigour and flow of the language of the one-act play is unmatched. The language is capable of conveying the feelings and thoughts of the characters with complete success.

The character planning is appropriate to the situation. This one-act play is successful in its storyline, covering the country, time and environment. There is no doubt that it is completely authentic from the historical point of view. Dr. Sudhir Azad’s cultural understanding in the dialogue planning is born out of the Indian spiritual tradition. The dialogues have their own language structure according to the situation. The dialogue planning of the one-act play is really so effective and lively that after reading it, it seems as if some energy starts surging in your mind and brain.

dialogue in a one-act play

“I, Khudiram Trailokyanath Bose, am moving forward with the dream of independence for my nation and am determined to achieve the power to make this dream come true.”

“… He is like the Sun, his magnificence is capable of defeating and defeating the darkness. He is a divine mass of consciousness. My friend, full of pride for his nation and self-respect, is as firm as a mountain. Like me, his belief is that freedom is the only goal of his life.”

“A student of a subjugated nation cannot ignore his duties towards his motherland and dream of a glorious future. This is not subversiveness but a proclamation of freedom.”

“You are wrong, I am not inspired by misguided people. I am inspired by the thoughts of those great revolutionary leaders who have sacrificed their personal comforts and conveniences for the freedom of the motherland. Those for whom the nation is supreme, who worship the nation and have dedicated themselves to the nation-sacrifice.”

Sir, this may be a crime in your eyes but in my eyes it is my duty, which is supreme in the category of virtue. You should also keep one more thing in your mind that the British Empire should remember that India will not remain under their control for long. We are here now and others will come after us, your gallows may fall short but there will be no shortage of people who will die for Mother India.

The writer said that I am mentioning these dialogues in this review especially because by reading these few dialogues you can guess how much fire this one-act play has in its small form. This one-act play, full of national consciousness and sense of duty, will undoubtedly germinate the seeds of patriotism in the minds of the new generation, there is no doubt about it.
