Khap Mahapanchayat was held in Jind, Haryana on Sunday. It was demanded that live-in, love marriage and same sex marriage should be banned. Members of 300 Khap Panchayats from Haryana, UP, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh participated in the Khap Mahapanchayat. During this, Raghubir Nain, head of Banain Khap, said that love marriage was discussed first. Khap is not against love marriage, but consent of parents is necessary, because no parent wants to harm their children. He said that Khap is also against marriage within the same gotra.

Raghubir Nain said that live-in relationships are also leading to disputes over parental rights. Also, homosexual marriages should be banned because even animals avoid it.

Raghubir Nain said that the representatives of the Khap Panchayat will meet the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition to put pressure on the government to amend the relevant law. He said that if our demands are not met and appropriate amendments are not made in the law, we will start a movement. A 51-member committee is being formed to take this issue forward.

During this, a female khap leader Santosh Dahiya also claimed that live-in relationships are bad and should be banned. Santosh said that the biggest issue that was discussed was live-in relationships and marriage within the same gotra. The family system is breaking down due to live-in relationships because it has been made legal. Living with the person of your choice is legal. It has badly affected the society, children and our culture.

The female khap leader said that women are most affected by this because men, be it husbands or brothers, ignore their wives and start living with the woman of their choice. That is why women want to fight against this (live-in). Santosh Dahiya said that the issue of same gotra marriage is also burning, which has damaged the social fabric, as well as created genetic problems, which increase after same gotra marriage.
