Former MP from Wayanad Rahul Gandhi: A massive landslide occurred in several hilly areas near Meppadi in Wayanad district of Kerala this morning. According to information, two massive landslides have occurred in Mundakai and Choorlamalla. As per the information received so far, the death toll has risen to 54, while hundreds of people are still feared trapped.

So far, 10 people who died in the landslide have been identified as Ramlath, Ashraf, Kunhimoyatin, Lenin, Vijesh, Sumesh, Salam, Shreya, Premaleela and Regina Bat. The bodies of the deceased have been kept at 5 places. They have been kept in Maippady Health Center (32), VIMS (7), Vaithiri Taluk Hospital (1), Neelambur Hospital (8) and Malappuram Chunakathara Hospital (1).

Rescue operation continues amid heavy rain

Kerala minister MB Rajesh said he feared the tragedy was more serious than the number. Rescue operations were being carried out by the police, NDRF, fire force and various agencies at the site. So far 250 people have been rescued and sent to temporary shelter camps. According to information, a team of ministers has been sent to Wayanad. The Chief Minister is personally monitoring the operation. Minister MB Rajesh said that every possible effort is being made by the government to save people.
