Arvind Kejriwal Bail: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, arrested in the excise policy case, got a big relief from the Supreme Court on Friday. The Supreme Court granted him interim bail. However, while granting interim bail, the court said that it is sending the matter to a larger bench for hearing. This larger bench will hear some points of the case. While granting interim bail, the court said that we have given the decision keeping in mind life and liberty.

Kejriwal is a leader elected by the people: SC

Let us tell you that Kejriwal has challenged his arrest by ED in the excise policy case. The Supreme Court said that Kejriwal has spent more than 90 days in jail. He is a leader elected by the people. It is up to him to decide whether to remain on the post of Chief Minister or not. However, despite this interim bail, Kejriwal will not be able to come out of Tihar Jail. He has also been arrested by the CBI in the excise policy case. He has got this bail till the hearing of the larger bench. For the larger bench, the Chief Justice will form a bench of three judges.

The matter was referred to a larger bench after deciding three questions.

The bench headed by Justice Sanjeev Khanna referred the matter to a larger bench while deciding three questions in its decision. Actually, Kejriwal has challenged the order of the Delhi High Court in which the summons issued to Kejriwal by the lower court in the scam case was upheld. Justice Sanjeev Khanna said that the court cannot order Kejriwal to resign due to his arrest, it is up to him to decide.

Kejriwal will remain in jail for now

Expressing happiness over this decision of the Supreme Court, Kejriwal’s lawyer Rishikesh Kumar said that interim bail has been granted by the apex court and the matter of Section 19, which requires arrest, has been sent to a larger bench. Despite this interim bail, CM Kejriwal will remain in jail as the hearing on his bail in the CBI arrest case is still pending.

High Court will hear the CBI arrest case on July 17

Kejriwal’s other lawyer Vivek Jain said that there are many aspects of law in this case which the Supreme Court is looking into. One of these is the need for arrest. During the hearing, we had said that this matter was before the ED since July-August 2023 but why was he arrested in March 2024. The court must have heard our arguments. Kejriwal has got interim bail till the larger bench hearing on this matter is completed. As far as the ED arrest is concerned, he has got bail. As far as the CBI arrest is concerned, this case is in the Delhi High Court. It will be heard in the High Court on July 17.
