Kedarnath, Two police sub-inspectors have been suspended for allegedly molesting a woman devotee from Madhya Pradesh who had come to visit Kedarnath a year ago. Rudraprayag Superintendent of Police Vishakha Ashok Bhadane told news agency Bhasha on Friday that sub-inspector Kuldeep Negi and Kedarnath station officer Manjul Rawat have been suspended based on the recommendation of an inquiry committee.

What is the whole matter?

The woman had come to Kedarnath with her eight friends in May last year. After visiting the temple, her friends returned by helicopter. However, she was left alone there due to lack of space in the helicopter. The devotee was waiting for the next round of the helicopter, but the air service was stopped due to sudden bad weather. There was no proper accommodation facility in the temple, so she sought help from Munjal Rawat.

The woman complained through WhatsApp

Quoting the woman’s complaint, the Superintendent of Police said that she asked the devotee to stay in the police camp for the night and also said that a woman constable would be deployed for security at night. However, no woman constable was sent to the Kedarnath police camp and instead Sub-Inspector Negi came to the camp drunk and started molesting the woman devotee. The next morning she returned to her hometown Indore and sent a complaint in this regard to the Superintendent of Police of Rudraprayag on WhatsApp.

An enquiry committee was constituted

Acting on the complaint, Bhadane constituted an investigation committee under the chairmanship of the circle officer of Guptkashi, however, there was no significant progress in the investigation. On this, the woman lodged her complaint on the Uttarakhand Chief Minister Helpline in October. After this, Dehradun City Superintendent of Police Pramod Kumar was entrusted with the investigation of the case.

Bhadane said that in his report submitted to the administration recently, Kumar held both the policemen guilty following which an FIR was lodged against them on June 28. He said that both the policemen were suspended.
