Kedarnath: Roads damaged due to heavy rains in Kedarnath, 2 bodies found; More than 700 passengers stranded in Kedarnath, rescue operation underway

Kedarnath, There is torrential rain across the country. It has brought devastation in many states. Mountains are also cracking in Uttarakhand, cloudburst is causing heavy damage. Meanwhile, the devotees who have reached Kedarnath Dham are also facing a lot of problems. The administration is trying to provide relief to the stranded people. Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand Police Headquarters said that many roads were damaged due to heavy rains in Kedarnath on Wednesday night. The district administration and other security forces including the police are continuously engaged in work to safely rescue the pilgrims and local people stranded at various places. Efforts are being made to safely rescue all the people at every level. To speed up the rescue operations, passengers were also airlifted by the Air Force’s Chinook and MI 17 aircraft. At the same time, manual rescue is also continuing.

Rudraprayag administration clarified the situation regarding the dead and missing passengers in the disaster. According to the administration, 2 bodies have been recovered so far. Both these bodies have been recovered from Lyncholi area. Due to network connectivity problem, passengers are facing problem in contacting their relatives. Adequate food, water and accommodation arrangements have also been made by the administration for the passengers stranded at various places.

Administration issued emergency number

The district police has issued helpline numbers 7579257572, 01364-233387 and emergency number 112 and necessary information is being given on calls from the relatives of the passengers. 150 passengers staying in Bhimbali talked to their families through the Wi-Fi network installed at the prepaid counter and informed them about their well-being. On Friday, 599 people were rescued by airlifting them by helicopter services. Whereas, 2024 pilgrims stranded between Sonprayag and Jungle Chatti and 161 pilgrims stranded in Chaumasi were rescued. People engaged in rescue say that rain is hampering the rescue. So far, a total of 7234 passengers have been rescued safely by helicopter and manually. Teams of NDRF, SDRF, Forest Department, concerned district police and fire and emergency services are engaged in rescue work.
