Karnataka: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has submitted a proposal to rename Ramanagara district as Bengaluru South to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Speaking to reporters after submitting the proposal to the Chief Minister in the Assembly, Shivakumar said, “A delegation of MLAs from Ramanagara district and the district in-charge minister submitted a proposal to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today. This initiative has been taken keeping in mind the development and future of Ramanagara, Channapatna, Magadi, Kanakapura and Harohalli blocks.”
What did Shivkumar say?
He said, “People of Doddabalapur, Devanahalli, Hoskote, Kanakapura, Ramanagara, Channapatna, Magadi are originally from Bengaluru. Ramanagara and Bengaluru Rural districts have been separated from Bengaluru city for administrative convenience.”
Emphasising the need for the proposal, he said, “There is a need to rename Ramanagara while keeping Ramanagara as the district headquarters. We have submitted a proposal in this regard. Changing the name will help bring industry to the district and also improve land valuation. Actually, Bengaluru has scope to grow only towards Ramanagara and Tumkur as it has Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh on the other side.”
‘There will be no change in geographical boundaries’
When asked which taluks would come under Bengaluru South district, he said it was only a name-changing exercise and there would be no change in the geographical boundaries of the district.
Shivkumar said that to maintain the pride of the district, we have discussed with everyone in Ramnagar, Magadi and Kanakapura. A delegation led by me met the Chief Minister. We want it to be renamed as Bengaluru South district instead of Ramnagar.
