Kanwar Yatra Route 2024: After the Supreme Court on Monday put an interim stay on the direction to the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments to display the names of the owners of eateries along the Kanwar Yatra routes, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said a new name plate should be written with “Saudhardameva Jayate”.

After the Supreme Court order, Yadav wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, ‘A new name plate should be written: Saudharmev Jayate.’ A bench of Justices Rishikesh Roy and S.V.N. Bhatti issued notices to the governments of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh and asked them to respond to the petitions challenging the order.

The apex court passed this order while hearing the petitions filed by NGO Association of Protection of Civil Rights, MP and Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra and others challenging the directions of the state governments. The court will hear the case next on Friday.

Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Jayant Chaudhary had also strongly opposed it

The Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments had recently issued orders asking the eateries located on the Kanwar Yatra route to display the names of their owners. Apart from this, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Ujjain Municipal Corporation in Madhya Pradesh also directed shopkeepers on Saturday to display names and mobile numbers outside their establishments. This order was strongly opposed by the SP, Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party as well as Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Jayant Chaudhary, who is part of the BJP-led coalition government at the Center.

‘Such instructions fuel conflict between communities’

In her petition, Moitra urged for a stay on the orders issued by the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments, saying that such instructions promote disputes between communities. It has been alleged that the relevant orders have been issued with the aim of economic boycott of Muslim shop owners and artisans and harming their livelihood.
