Kanpur: Wife is a judge, brother is an IAS… Story of a deputy director who drowned in the Ganga in no time because his friends did not have even 10 thousand rupees in cash

Adityavardhan Singh, an officer (Deputy Director) of the Health Department in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, went to take a bath in the Ganga. But during this time, he slipped and drowned in the river. The incident happened last Saturday, but he has not been found yet. A team of divers is engaged in searching for him. SDRF has also been deployed.

At the same time, the officer’s friends say that they immediately asked for help from the divers present there, but the divers first asked them to pay 10 thousand rupees. Due to lack of cash, by the time the money was transferred online to a shopkeeper’s account, it was too late. Adityavardhan Singh was swept away in the river. The incident took place at Nanamau Ghat under Bilhaur Kotwali.

It is alleged that if the divers present on the spot had started the rescue operation immediately, Adityavardhan (45) could have been saved. But they first got the money transferred and then started the rescue operation. But by then Adityavardhan had been swept away by the river current.

Wife is a judge, brother is an IAS officer

Now this incident has forced people to think whether life has no value in front of money. At present, the matter is getting serious. Adityavardhan’s wife is a judge in Maharashtra. Whereas, his cousin is a senior IAS officer in Bihar. Adityavardhan’s family has reached Kanpur.

First took the money, then started the rescue

According to the information, this incident happened on Saturday, 31st August at Nanamau Ghat in Kanpur. Adityavardhan, a UP Health Department official from Unnao, had come to take a bath in the Ganga with his friends Pradeep Tiwari etc. Friends say that while bathing, Adityavardhan asked to take a photo. During this, his foot went into the pit and he started drowning. Immediately help was sought from the divers standing on the ghat.

But the divers asked them to first give them Rs 10,000. They did not have Rs 10,000 in cash at that time. However, they transferred the money online to a shopkeeper’s account. After which the divers proceeded to rescue Adityavardhan. But by then it was too late.

Adityavardhan’s relative Aniket Singh said that the shopkeepers present at the ghat did not go into the Ganga to save him until they saw the screenshot of the ₹10000 transfer. If they had gone immediately and not wasted 10-15 minutes in transferring the money, Adityavardhan’s life could have been saved.

On the other hand, the shopkeeper in whose account the money was transferred says that the divers did not have their own online account, so the money was transferred to his account. But when Adityavardhan was not found, he returned the money. When asked why the divers did not save the drowning person first, they could have asked for the money later? On this the shopkeeper said- when someone was seen, they would have saved him.

At present, Adityavardhan Singh’s body has not been found till late night. The search operation is going on by the police and administration. The SDRF team is searching in the river. An area of several kilometers is being searched. ADCP Brijendra Dwivedi has been stationed at the ghat with his team for two days. He says that many teams have been deployed in the Ganga, all efforts are being made. The victim’s family and relatives have also reached the spot.
