Former Punjab MP and Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) leader Simranjit Singh Mann on Thursday made a controversial remark against actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut. The former MP is being heavily criticized for this. At the same time, Kangana Ranaut’s statement has also come out on this. She hit back at the Akali Dal leader and said that it seems that this country will never stop trivializing rape. She said that today I am also getting rape threats that Kangana knows what rape is. They will not be able to suppress my voice in this way.
In fact, Kangana had recently accused of rape and murder during the farmers’ movement during an interview. When the media asked Akali Dal leader Simranjit Singh Mann about this, he said, “I do not want to say but Ranaut sahab has a lot of experience of rape. She can be asked how rape happens so that people can be explained how rape happens. She has a lot of experience in this. Just like when you ride a bicycle, you have experience of riding a bicycle, so she has experience of rape.”
Kangana’s reaction on the objectionable statement
Reacting to this, Kangana Ranaut posted a video of the Akali leader making the objectionable statement on her x handle and wrote, “It seems this country will never stop trivializing rape. Today this senior leader compared rape to riding a bicycle. No wonder rape and violence against women for fun is so deeply rooted in the mindset of this patriarchal nation that it is used to tease or mock women. Even if it is a high profile filmmaker or politician.”
Who is Simranjit Singh Mann?
Former MP Simranjit Singh Mann from Sangrur Lok Sabha seat came into the limelight after quitting his IPS job in protest against Indira Gandhi’s Operation Blue Star. He is the brother-in-law of former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh. Captain Amarinder’s wife Preneet Kaur and Simranjit Singh Mann’s wife Geetinder Kaur are real sisters. After quitting his job, Simranjit Singh Mann entered politics. He formed the Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar party. Simranjit Singh Mann has been an MP from Tarn Taran twice. He was an MP from Tarn Taran in 1989. After this, he contested from Sangrur Lok Sabha seat in 1999 and won. He also won the Sangrur Lok Sabha by-election.
Kangana gave this statement regarding the farmers’ movement
Let us tell you that Kangana, MP from Mandi Lok Sabha seat of Himachal Pradesh, had recently said in an interview that if India’s leadership capacity was not strong, the farmers’ protest could have taken the form of a crisis like Bangladesh in the country. Kangana Ranaut had also alleged that corpses were hanging and rapes were taking place during the farmers’ protest, which lasted for almost a year. She also accused China and America of being involved in the conspiracy.
BJP asked Kangana not to make controversial statements in future
Kangana Ranaut’s statements were strongly criticized by the opposition, while the BJP distanced itself from her statements. An official statement was issued by the BJP’s central media department. It said, “The statement made by BJP MP Kangana Ranaut in the context of the farmers’ movement is not the party’s opinion. The Bharatiya Janata Party expresses disagreement with Kangana Ranaut’s statement. On behalf of the party, Kangana Ranaut is neither allowed nor authorized to make statements on party policy issues. Kangana Ranaut has been directed by the BJP not to make any such statements in future.”
