John F. Rare Unseen Footage of Kennedy Assassination Up for Auction

Former President John F. Newly unseen footage of Kennedy’s assassination will be auctioned later this month—reportedly showing the terrifying moments after the shooting as his limousine drove into Parkland Memorial Hospital.

RR Auctions will sell the footage, which totals 40 seconds, on September 28. The rare footage is currently listed for $12,100. Auction house.

The footage was captured on 8mm color film by Dale Carpenter Sr., a truck driver who used a home movie camera, according to the auction house. Much of the footage shows the presidential motorcade heading down Lemon Avenue toward Dealey Plaza.

However, Carpenter unfortunately missed the presidential limousine transporting former President and First Lady Jackie Kennedy, and quickly moved to another location near the end of the parade route on the North Stemmons Freeway, part of Interstate-35. At this position on the side of the freeway, Carpenter was able to capture footage of Kennedy’s limousine speeding toward Parkland Memorial Hospital at 80 mph.

The footage captured Secret Service agent Clint Hill jumping into the back of the limousine after shooting the president, clinging to the car even as it sped down the freeway. Hill later published his memoirs of the assassination in 2013, Five days in November, And there will be clips of the footage in an upcoming documentary about him.

After ten seconds of footage of I-35, the home movie reel suddenly cuts to footage of a child playing with a toy dump truck.

The most iconic footage of the assassination may be the Zapruder film—recorded by Abraham Zapruder on a silent, 8 mm home movie camera, and showing the moment Kennedy was shot as the limousine drove through Dealey Plaza.

Carpenter died in 1991 and the footage is being sold by his grandson James Gates. Associated Press informed. Gates, who found the film in a milk crate, told the wire service that he found Lemon Ave. Parna was initially upset by the footage, but later found the footage of the rush to the hospital “shocking”.

with the auction house Released some clips and still images of the footage, but did not release the full segment along I-35. Prospective buyers can schedule an appointment with the auction house to view footage ahead of time, according to the film’s catalog.
