In the second test, Joe Root scored centuries in both the innings and completely defeated the Sri Lankan team and won the match. He played match winning innings of 143 runs in the first innings and 103 runs in the second innings. In the first test, Root had played strong innings of 42 and 62 not out.

Joe Root has created a new history at Lord’s ground. He has become the first batsman to score 7 centuries on this ground. Root scored his first century on this ground against Australia in 2013. Before Root, Graham Gooch and Michael Vaughan have scored 6 centuries each on this ground.

Most runs scored at home ground

Joe Root has also topped the list of most runs scored in Test cricket on English soil. 33-year-old Joe Root has played 77 home Test matches, in which he has scored 6,733 runs at a strong average of 55.64. During this, he has scored 21 centuries and 32 fifties. Earlier this record was in the name of Alastair Cook, who had scored 6,568 runs in 89 home Test matches. He had scored 15 centuries and 32 fifties.

With Joe Root in such a great form, a record of Sachin Tendulkar is also on his radar. This is of scoring the most fifties in Test cricket. Currently, Sachin holds the record of scoring the most fifties in Test cricket, i.e. 68. Whereas Joe Root has scored 64 fifties so far and is at number three.

At number two is former West Indies legend Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who scored 66 half-centuries. Among active players, only Joe Root is very close to Sachin’s record. Among active players, after Joe Root, only Australia’s former captain, 35-year-old Steve Smith, is next. But he is far behind with 41 fifties.
