JK Elections: ‘It was not easy to form an alliance with Congress but…’, said Omar Abdullah in an exclusive interview

National Conference and Congress are going to contest the assembly elections together in Jammu and Kashmir. Under the alliance, both the parties have also reached an agreement on seat sharing. National Conference leader Omar Abdullah had a special conversation with India Today regarding the strategy and various questions on the assembly elections.

‘The alliance was not easy’

In this interview, Omar Abdullah said that this alliance was not easy for both the parties, be it Congress or NC. There were differences on many issues. We wanted to contest on those seats where we are stronger. This was their intention too. There were many problems in terms of workers as well. But talks were held on this from both sides. Now both the parties are satisfied with the agreement that has been reached.

He said that elections are being held here after 10 years. It is not easy for anyone to reach a consensus. You must have seen what happened in BJP which calls itself the most disciplined party. People entered the party office. Police had to be called. They had to change the list. During this, Omar Abdullah appealed to his workers and said that I know that workers may have problems with some of our decisions but they will have to make some sacrifices to remove BJP from here.

raised the issue of state restoration

During this, Omar Abdullah said that after the formation of the government, we will be able to ensure that the status of the state is restored. We will also knock the doors of the Supreme Court regarding this. But I appeal to the public that after the formation of the government, we will raise this issue strongly.

Targeting the Lieutenant Governor

Targeting the Lieutenant Governor, Omar Abdullah said that when he has to go from one place to another, the road is closed 20 minutes before. I see this every day. What do you expect from such a person that how will he connect directly with the public. After forming the government, we will pay special attention to this. It is necessary to stay among the people to understand their issues. This is not possible in LG’s system.

Congress, NC formed alliance

Announcing the alliance, Farooq Abdullah said that talks with Congress for seat sharing in Jammu and Kashmir have been completed. Out of 90, NC will contest 51 seats and Congress 32 and it has been agreed that 5 seats have been left for friendly fight. One seat has been kept for CPI(M) and one for Panthers Party.

Meanwhile, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said that the main objective of our INDIA block was to save Jammu and Kashmir. Therefore, NC, Congress is ready to form a friendly government for the PP of Jammu and Kashmir. We will fight together, we will win and we will form the government in Jammu and Kashmir.

Let us tell you that assembly elections are going to be held in Jammu and Kashmir after 10 years. After the abolition of 370, Jammu and Kashmir was made a union territory. After this, elections are going to be held for the first time. Elections will be held in three phases. Voters will cast their votes for the 90 assembly seats of the state on 18 September, 25 September and 1 October. The election results will be declared on 4 October.
