A day after staking claim to form the government, Hemant Soren will take oath as CM today at 5 pm. Today the Governor called Hemant Soren to Raj Bhavan after which he was invited to take oath. State President of ally Congress Rajesh Thakur said that JMM leader Hemant Soren will take oath as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand today.

Champai Soren resigned

Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren resigned from his post on Wednesday. After this, JMM leader Hemant Soren met Governor CP Radhakrishnan and staked claim to form the government. Earlier, the leaders and MLAs of the ruling coalition unanimously elected Hemant Soren as the leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) Legislature Party in a meeting at Champai Soren’s residence. Champai Soren, who was sworn in as the 12th Chief Minister of Jharkhand on February 2 after the arrest of Hemant Soren, met Governor CP Radhakrishnan at the Raj Bhavan and submitted his resignation in the presence of the JMM working president, putting an end to the day-long speculation.

Hemant Soren staked claim to form the government and the swearing-in ceremony will be held on July 7. After taking oath, Hemant Soren will be the 13th Chief Minister of Jharkhand. Jharkhand became a separate state on 15 November 2000 by separating from Bihar. After coming out of the Raj Bhavan, Champai Soren said, I have resigned as per the decision of the JMM-led alliance. Our alliance is strong. Everyone knows what happened with Hemant Soren ji… The alliance partners had given me responsibility. Now, the alliance has decided in favor of Hemant Soren ji. Hemant Soren told the media that all the formalities to form the government have been completed.

Hemant Soren was released from jail on June 28, nearly five months after his arrest, after the High Court granted him bail in a money laundering case linked to an alleged land scam. He had resigned as chief minister before his arrest on January 31. Meanwhile, official sources in New Delhi said the ED may soon approach the Supreme Court with a special leave petition against the Jharkhand High Court order granting bail to Hemant Soren in the money laundering case.
