Jammu and Kashmir: BJP releases second list of candidates, one more name confirmed

BJP released the second list of candidates for Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections on Monday. Only one candidate’s name has been announced in the second list. According to the second list, Chaudhary Roshan Hussain Gujjar has been declared as BJP’s candidate from Kokernag (ST) seat. Earlier, BJP had announced the names of 15 candidates for the first phase of voting.

Let us tell you that at around 10 am on Monday, BJP had first announced the names of 44 candidates. But after about two hours, BJP approved only 15 names. The rest of the names were rejected by BJP. Sources say that many senior BJP leaders were unhappy because their names were not in the first list, due to which BJP had to release a new list. Let us tell you that elections are to be held in three phases in Jammu and Kashmir.

In the list released earlier, many big BJP leaders in Jammu and Kashmir were not given tickets. Former Deputy CM and former Speaker of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Dr. Nirmal Singh was also included in this. Nirmal Singh had won from Billawar assembly seat in 2014. At the same time, former Deputy CM Kavinder Gupta also did not get a ticket.

In the old list of BJP, Union Minister Jitendra Singh’s brother Devendra Rana was made the candidate from Nagota by BJP. Devendra Rana had left the National Conference and joined BJP.

In the old list of BJP, the party had fielded Kashmiri Pandits from two seats of Kashmir Valley. Veer Saraf from Shangas-Anantnag East and Ashok Bhatt from Habbakadal were made candidates.

Let us tell you that a meeting of the BJP’s Central Election Committee was held in New Delhi on Sunday regarding the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. Many senior leaders including PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President JP Nadda attended this meeting. In this meeting, election strategy, issues, names of candidates and possible rallies of PM Modi in the state were discussed.
