Jagannath Temple, The Ratna Bhandar of the Jagannath temple in Puri, Odisha will open today. The state government is opening this treasury after 46 years to make a list of jewelery and other valuables. Earlier it was opened in 1978. Puri District Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain said that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will use this treasure to repair the temple. A 16-member high-level committee constituted by the state government had recommended opening the Ratna Bhandar on July 14. It was told in the state assembly in 2018 that the Ratna Bhandar has 12831 tola gold ornaments. These are studded with precious gems and also 22153 tola silver utensils and other items. Siddharth Shankar Swain said that with this, the process of inventory of Lord Jagannath’s jewels will start from today.

There is presence of snakes in the gem store

The state government has issued SOP for the temple management committee and all work will be done based on that. The procedures to be followed for reopening the treasury and completing each task for inventory have also been fixed. The Chief Administrator of the Jagannath Temple Administration has been entrusted with the responsibility of monitoring the entire work. He said that if the lock of the Ratna Bhandar does not open with the key, then the lock will be broken. The team has been called. Snake helpline and medical team are also being deployed in view of the presence of snakes in the Ratna Bhandar.

Let us tell you, the BJP had promised to reopen the treasury of the 12th century temple if it came to power in Odisha. The treasury of the temple was last opened 46 years ago in 1978. Its reopening was a major political issue during the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state.
