‘It’s a Distraction’: During Jimmy Kimmel Interview, Doug Amhoff Rebuffs Donald Trump’s Attacks on Kamala Harris’ Raw

In his first appearance as a guest on Jimmy Kimmel alive Tonight, second gentleman Doug Amhoff His wife, Democratic nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris, faced a comical version of the question.

Kimmel asked, “What was your reaction when your wife blacked out? Were you surprised?”

“All that stuff, you know, it’s a distraction. We can joke about it, but it’s literally a distraction, so all the insults, all the things that come at him, come at me, come at our family, it really distracts from what they’re trying to do, ” replied Amhoff.

Kimmel was referring to Donald Trump’s questioning of Harris’ racial identity last month, which she dismissed as “the same old tired playbook” rather than taking the bait from her GOP rival.

Look at the timeline

Amhoff was an entertainment lawyer in Los Angeles for 30 years before becoming first second gentleman in 2021 when his wife became the first female vice president. She wants to be the first woman president, she gave a speech at the Democratic National Convention in which she highlighted her personal side.

He did so again on Kimmel’s show, as he described how they knew from birth that they had worked at McDonald’s in their younger days. Harris cites that fast food experience as the reason she focuses her campaign on boosting the middle class. However, Amhoff noted that while he worked there, he once became Employee of the Month.

Ironically, since Harris launched her presidential bid after Joe Biden dropped out of the race, Amhoff said it’s become a bit of a whirlwind, with less “happy couple” time available between him and his wife.

“Everything has changed, and it’s like being shot out of a cannon,” Amhoff told Kimmel.

Amhoff clarified to Kimmel that he did not play a role in choosing Harris’ running mate, nor was he helping her with debate preparations.

When it comes to the campaign, Amhoff said, “The last thing I’m going to do is give her advice on something that she’s really amazing at….I she asks me something I tell her what I think. But we really try. Keep it separate because we really want to be there for each other, for our family, for our kids, all that stuff.”

Amhoff is making speeches and headlining fundraisers, including an appearance at an event in Los Angeles this evening.

Kimmel asked about the Supreme Court’s recent ruling that the president has immunity from prosecution for official acts performed while in office. The president “can pretty much do whatever the president wants to do,” Kimmel said. “As her husband, does that worry you at all?”

“Once she gets elected, you know, it gets interesting,” Amhoff said, a little disappointed.

“When she was preparing for the debate, someone asked me,” he said. “Well, what’s there to discuss her. You’re both trial lawyers. Have you ever been? I said, ‘No, I’ve never won.’ And so I’m looking forward to this.”
