Israel’s military announced on Sunday that it had successfully intercepted a surface-to-surface missile fired from Yemen by the Iran-backed Houthi rebels. The missile was intercepted by Israel’s long-range Arrow Missile Defense System after being launched from the direction of the Red Sea.
The incident comes amid a series of attacks by the Houthis targeting Israel in recent months. On October 31, 2023, Israel intercepted a Houthi missile and drone near the southern city of Eilat. The Houthis have also claimed responsibility for launching long-range missiles and drones towards Israel in support of the Gaza Strip during the recent conflict.

In addition to targeting Israel, the Houthis have been attacking commercial shipping and naval vessels in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and Bab al-Mandab Strait since November 2023. These attacks have forced shipping companies to reroute vessels around southern Africa, adding substantial time and cost to journeys.
The latest missile interception by Israel’s Arrow system highlights the ongoing threat posed by the Houthis and the need for continued vigilance and defense capabilities in the region. As tensions remain high, the situation underscores the complex security challenges facing Israel and its allies in the Middle East.
