Venice President of the Film Festival Jury Isabelle Huppert expressed support for Nicole Kidman While the actress was unable to accept the Best Actress award for it Babygirl In person, because of his mother’s death.

Kidman flew to Italy to receive the award but had to get back on the plane shortly after landing.

“I just wanted to express my sympathy to Nicole Kidman, who can’t be here tonight, who had to go back unexpectedly, and I want to tell her that we really miss her and we love her,” Huppert told Jury Press. We do,” Huppert told Jury Press. Conference

Earlier in the award ceremony, Babygirl Director Halina Raine read a message from Kidman as she accepted the award on her behalf, in which the actress said she was in shock and was dedicating the award to her mother.

Look at the timeline

Kidman plays a high-powered CEO in the thriller, who puts her life’s work on the line when she begins an awkward affair with her much younger intern.

“I thought it was very extraordinary. It’s a very daring performance, but that’s not the only thing he does. It’s also about what the film is about,” Huppert said.

“I really like the director’s perspective, the way he really blends the two aspects of a woman. You can be a woman of strength and yet, you can also be a fragile woman… and I think what Nicole Kinman does is absolutely extraordinary. She shows a lot of emotion, intelligence in everything she does. I was really shocked.”

Huppert was joined on the jury by James Gray, Andrew Hay, Agnieszka Holland, Kleber Mendonsa Filho, Abderrahmane Sissako, Giuseppe Tornatore, Julia von Hanz and Zhang Ziyi.

They awarded the festival’s Golden Lion to Pedro Almodóvar’s English-language euthanasia drama The Room Next Door, Starring Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore.

Other major prize-winners including Vermilion by Maura Delpero (Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize) and brutal by Brady Corbett (Silver Lion Best Director), while Vincent Lindon won Best Actor quiet son.

Explaining Almodóvar’s choice The Room Next Door For the top prize, Huppert said the jury was impressed by the way the director dealt with the subject of euthanasia.

“In a way, it has to do with life, with the spirit of life, with transmission. I think he sees the end of life and death as a movement, something that stops and something that moves on. The film is philosophical, and it makes us think about what it means to live and what it means to end your life,” she said.

“Obviously, we loved the two actresses who are great, because the film, surprisingly, is never really sentimental, nor really melodramatic. Almodóvar has a talent for keeping a certain distance from his subject. We loved the movie for all these reasons.

Asked about the decision-making process on the prizes, Huppert indicated that decisions on the awards were not necessarily unanimous but she suggested that this was not the issue.

“I don’t think we have reached a compromise. We just let ourselves agree sometimes, or we convince others, and you don’t have to be unanimous to agree. I think that is also a good rule,” she said.
