Is garlic a vegetable or a spice? The question is very simple, but it is very difficult to answer it. Even the court heard this question for 9 years and now the result has come out that garlic is a vegetable. In this many years old case, the Indore court has included garlic in the category of vegetables and also allowed it to be sold in the category of spices.
After this debate on garlic, another question is how is it differentiated between a vegetable and a fruit and how is it decided what is a fruit and what is a vegetable? Because there has been a lot of debate on whether tomato is a vegetable or a fruit.
What is the matter with garlic?
Actually, in 2015, on the demand of farmers, Madhya Pradesh Mandi Board had put garlic in the vegetable category, after which the Agriculture Department overturned the decision. Then this garlic was made a spice. Then this decision was challenged in the court and in 2017 the court considered garlic as a vegetable. After this, it was challenged again and now the decision has come, in which garlic has been considered a vegetable.

What happens to the fruit?
Now let’s come to the debate of fruits and vegetables. Actually, on the basis of many botanical reports, it can be said that fruits are that part of the tree which is made from a flower. Along with this, there is a seed in it. The seed from which that plant can be grown again. Fruit means a flower, that is, when a separate flower comes out from the flower and then it is ready, then the fruit is formed.
A fruit cannot be any other part of a plant, technically it is a fruit that is formed from a flower. Even if the seeds of a fruit are outside, it definitely has seeds, like strawberries.
What is vegetable?
If we talk about vegetables, technically vegetables can be any part of a plant. It is not necessary for a vegetable to have a flower, any part of a plant can be a vegetable. The leaf, stem, root or any other part of a plant can also be considered a vegetable, but a fruit is just a flower. It is not necessary for a vegetable to be made from a fruit only. You can understand this from potatoes, spinach, ladyfinger etc. Also, it has been said in many researches that the taste of vegetables is not sweet either.
Then what is a banana?
Many people believe that bananas do not have seeds, so how can it be considered a fruit. There are many bananas that have seeds and are black in colour. You must have seen black seeds in many bananas. It is said that if you look at naturally grown wild bananas, you will find seeds inside them. The seeds of some varieties are so big that they form a lot of fruit and they are revealed only when chewed. It is said that ever since bananas have started being grown commercially, the seeds have started disappearing. That means bananas also have seeds.
However, there are many reports about bananas, in which it is considered a fruit and also not. Many experts consider it a berry instead of a fruit, which is considered through the ovaries. It is also like tomatoes, which are considered both a fruit and a vegetable.
