Is Kolkata really the safest city? Know how much truth is there in Mamata Banerjee’s claim

The uproar over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital continues. The main accused Sanjay Roy is in CBI custody. There is a demand for hanging him.

Meanwhile, the West Bengal government has passed a new bill in the assembly with the aim of hanging rapists. This bill, named ‘Aparajita Bill’, amends three central laws so that trials in rape and gangrape cases can be completed as soon as possible and the culprit can be punished.

While presenting the anti-rape bill on Tuesday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee fiercely targeted the central government. She also said that the central government itself has declared Kolkata as the safest city, but now the BJP is raising slogans of RG tax, demanding justice for RG tax.

During this, Mamata Banerjee cited the figures of NCRB. NCRB is a central government agency, which releases a report on crime figures every year. Mamata Banerjee said that the central government itself says that Kolkata is the safest city in India.
