A Florida man has been arrested and charged for allegedly making death threats against President Joe Biden, just days after an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
Jason Patrick Alday, a 39-year-old from Quincy, Florida, was taken into custody on Monday by the U.S. Secret Service and U.S. Marshals. Alday is accused of making threatening statements against the president and other federal officials from a mental health facility in Tallahassee, Florida, on June 25.
According to court documents, a staff member at the mental health facility reported that Alday had expressed dislike for President Biden and made violent statements about harming him during the intake process. Alday was later transferred to a different hospital for unrelated medical reasons.
Investigators say Alday also made threatening posts targeting President Biden on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) in early July. The Secret Service was able to link these posts directly to Alday.
Alday has been charged with three federal offenses, including making threats against the president and a federal official. He is currently being held pending trial, with prosecutors citing concerns about his access to potential weapons and his history of mental health and competency issues.
This arrest comes just days after an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump during a campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania. The incident resulted in injuries to Trump and the tragic death of a bystander, with the assailant being fatally shot by a Secret Service sniper.

The Secret Service has faced scrutiny following the attack on Trump, with various congressional committees and the Department of Homeland Security’s internal watchdog launching investigations into the security breach that allowed the shooter to access a nearby rooftop. President Biden has also ordered an independent evaluation of the security measures at Trump’s rally.
The arrests of both Alday and the assailant in the Trump attack underscore the heightened concerns around political violence and threats against elected officials in the United States.
