An investigation is underway into the VVIP treatment given to Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa in Bengaluru Parappana Agrahara Central Jail. Police Commissioner B Dayanand said on Friday that several prisoners and officials are being questioned in the case. The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate gave permission to transfer Darshan to the jail, after which he was shifted. He is currently in judicial custody in the Renuka Swamy murder case. A photo of him with three prisoners, including a gangster, in the prison lawn went viral, in which he was seen smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee. After this there was a lot of uproar.
Police Commissioner B Dayanand said three cases have been registered at the Parappana Agrahara police station in connection with various illegalities that took place at the central prison. Two cases have been registered against the inmates there, while the third case is against jail officials. He said all three cases are being investigated by the Bengaluru South-East Division police. The case against the jail officials is being investigated by an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) rank officer.
The police commissioner said that permission has been taken from the court to conduct an investigation inside the jail. The investigation has been going on for the last two days. The investigation is being led by South-East Division Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sara Fatima. It is being monitored by Additional Commissioner of Police Raman Gupta. The investigating officers have questioned several prisoners and officials. If anyone gives specific information about any other illegal activity that took place in the jail, action will be taken.
Nine jail officials, including the chief superintendent of Parappana Agrahara jail, were suspended after a photo of the special treatment given to actor Darshan went viral. Three FIRs were registered against the actor under various sections of the Prison Act and the Indian Penal Code (BNS). The 24th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate allowed Darshan to be transferred to Ballari jail after the uproar over the photo.
Darshan was shifted from Parappana Agrahara Central Jail to Ballari Jail amid tight security on Thursday. Official sources said the court has also allowed the transfer of other co-accused in the murder case to various jails in the state. Some of them were shifted on Thursday, while the process is on for the remaining others. The judicial custody of 15 accused, including Darshan, Pavithra Gowda, has been extended till September 9.
Let us tell you that those who have been suspended after this lapse in the jail came to light include jailers Sharan Basappa Amingad and Prabhu S Khandelwal, assistant jailers L S Kuppeswamy and Srikant Talwar, head warders Venkappa, Sampath Kumar and warder K Basappa. A video of Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa also went viral, in which he is seen talking on a call. The clip starts with a man wearing a yellow T-shirt.
Who sees the other person smiling warmly on the video call. As the call progresses, the other person removes the camera from his face and walks away. He hands over the mobile to someone standing nearby. After some time, actor Darshan’s face appears on the mobile screen. Darshan happily greets the man by waving his hand. After this, a conversation takes place between the two. A gangster Wilson Garden Naga was also seen with them.
