‘Interim government should be formed on democratic values’, US statement on developments in Bangladesh

On the situation in Bangladesh, America says that the interim government should be formed according to democratic principles, rule of law and the wishes of the people there. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller told the media, ‘We want to see people decide the future of the Bangladeshi government. America stands with the people of Bangladesh.’ Let us tell you that after several days of violent protests, Sheikh Hasina resigned on Monday and also left the country.

America is keeping an eye on the situation in Bangladesh

Miller said that America is keeping an eye on every situation. We appeal to people to end the violence and normalize the situation. He said, ‘All decisions regarding the interim government should be made with respect to democratic principles, rule of law and the will of the Bangladeshi people.’ In response to a question, Miller said that he does not know whether former Prime Minister Hasina has sought asylum in America or not.

Miller said, ‘There should be accountability for the violence and killings that have taken place in the last few weeks. Miller said that the US is carefully monitoring the situation in Bangladesh. We urge all parties to refrain from further violence. Many lives have been lost during the last several weeks and we urge peace and restraint in the coming days.’ Earlier, the White House National Security Council spokesperson had said that we are closely monitoring the situation in Bangladesh.

But on Monday the situation went out of control and people moved towards the PM residence, after which Sheikh Hasina had to leave the country.
