A special POCSO court has sentenced a 32-year-old man to death in the case of rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Gir Somnath district of Gujarat. Special Judge SI Bhoraniya in Kodinar ordered that Somabhai Solanki, convicted in this case, be hanged till death. The court has also directed him to pay a fine of Rs 25,000.
The court has considered this case of rape and murder as ‘rarest of the rare’. The culprit has committed the crime in a very cruel and ruthless manner. Therefore, it has no option but to give him the death penalty. This heinous crime took place in the year 2022 in a village in Kodinar taluka of Gir Somnath district. Government lawyer Ketan Singh Wala said that the police had formed a special investigation team to investigate the case.
Somabhai Solanki was arrested 25 days after this horrific incident. A case was registered against him under various sections of the IPC and the POCSO Act. He was accused of raping the minor girl, murdering her and disposing of her body at a deserted place. A total of 55 documentary evidences were presented before the court in this case and the prosecution had questioned several parties during the trial.

Let us tell you that a few days ago, the Gandhidham court in Kutch, Gujarat sentenced a convict to 20 years in prison in a case of rape of a minor girl. Along with this, a fine of 20 thousand rupees was also imposed. The court had said in its order that if the culprit does not deposit the fine amount, he will have to undergo an additional six months of simple imprisonment. This incident took place on 30 August 2023.
According to the police, the accused Pushparaj alias Vicky Santhakumar, who works in a paratha house opposite Adipur Tolani College, went to the complainant’s house. There he gave chocolates to two of her three daughters and took them to the bathroom and made them victims of his lust. In this case, an FIR was registered against the accused at Adipur police station on 2 September 2023. After this, the decision has come after hearing in the court.
