India’s new air defense system will be tested soon, know about SAMAR-2

Indian Air Force is soon going to test its new air defense system SAMAR-2. The range of this air defense system is 30 kilometers. That means if it is deployed on the Pakistan or China border, then it will destroy their missile in the air at a distance of 30 kilometers. It will not let it enter the country’s border.

The full name of SAMAR is Surface to Air Missile for Assured Retaliation. Its old version i.e. SAMAR-1 is deployed in Ladakh near the China border. This missile system was inducted into the army only in December 2023. Actually the Samar air defense system is the old Russian air-to-air missiles R-73 and R-27.

These missiles were about to become useless. That is, expire. Then Indian scientists converted them into an air defense system. Its lethal capability was demonstrated in the Vayu Shakti war exercise held in Pokhran a few months ago. The video of which is given below.

Know the power of this weapon

Samar missile is launched from a truck. It can hit any aerial target at a speed of 2982 km/hr. This missile system is operated by the BRD unit of the Air Force. It can target any kind of aerial target i.e. helicopters and fighter jets.

Samar-1 short range missile

There is a provision to install two missiles on its launcher. The range of this missile is 12 to 40 km. Two types of missiles are used in SAMAR Air Defense System. SAMAR 1. After the modification, it has now become a surface-to-air missile. Its weight is 105 kg, length is 9.7 feet, diameter is 6.5 inches and it has a warhead of 7.4 kg.

Samar-2 is more deadly and heavier

SAMAR 2 is an air-to-air missile. It weighs 253 kg. It is 13.4 feet long. Its diameter is 9.1 inches. It has wings. Whose wingspan is 30.4 inches. It can carry a 39 kg warhead. Which can be blast fragmentation or continuous rod.

The launchers to fire both are different

The launch trucks used to fire these missiles are also different. Ashok Leyland Stallion 4×4 truck is used for Samar-1. Whereas BEML Tatra T815 8×8 truck is used to fire Samar-2 missiles. The missiles used in this are actually from Russia. Which have been modified in India. These missiles are – Vympel R-73 and R-27 missiles. Indian Air Force has thousands of Vympel R-73E missiles.
