Indian Railways is developing a master clock for uniform timing, it will help in investigating accidents

For the first time, Indian Railways is planning to develop a master clock system to accurately coordinate the time of applications and systems across its network for the accurate investigation of rail accidents and to make the system more robust. According to the report, there is a plan to display a prototype related to this by Gandhi Jayanti (2 October) this year. According to the report, the need for same timing in all systems and applications of the railways arose because the difference in time creates difficulty in investigation after rail accidents.

According to the report, official sources said that the railways will soon do away with its current manual system of setting time by station masters on the instructions of the section controller. The Railway Board has constituted a high-level committee to finalise the master clock system.

In fact, in the current manual system, zonal railways across the country use different systems for timing. Different timings are also visible in the application. The timing is not the same across the system. Now the need to bring uniformity in this is being stated because it is being said that this will help in train operation and management as well as in getting the correct information after rail accidents.

Officials said that the time for the master clock system will be obtained from Navigation with Indian Constellation (NAVIC) or National Physical Laboratories (NPL). A high level team led by the Director of Telecommunications of the Railway Board will look into the details of this master clock system. The help of regional officials will also be taken for this.
