The Indian men’s hockey team played its fourth match against Belgium in the Paris Olympics 2024. In this match, the Indian team had to face a 1-2 defeat against the defending Olympic champions. In this match played on August 1 (Thursday), Abhishek (18th minute) scored for India. On the other hand, T. Stockbroks (33rd minute) and John-John Dohmen (44th minute) scored for Belgium. This was the first defeat of the Indian team in the current Olympic Games. However, the Indian team has already reached the quarter-finals.

In the first quarter of this match, no goal was scored by either team. Although Belgium tried to put pressure on the Indian defense in the first quarter, India’s defense line performed brilliantly. The second quarter went in India’s favor. In the third minute of this quarter, Abhishek took advantage of the mistake of the Belgian defenders and scored a goal for India. This was India’s first field goal in the current Olympics. After this, no more goals were scored in the second quarter. That is, till halftime, the Indian team was ahead by 1-0.

In the third quarter, the Tokyo Olympics gold medalist team started well and they also got the benefit of putting pressure. In the third minute of the third quarter, Thibeau Stockbroek scored a goal and gave Belgium a draw in the game. Stockbroek put the ball in the net after dodging two Indian defenders and goalkeeper PR Sreejesh. Then in the last minute of the third quarter, John-John Dohmen scored a goal and put Belgium ahead 2-1. In the last quarter, the Indian team tried its best to make a comeback, but it could not equalize. India’s next match is against Australia
The Indian team, which won an Olympic medal in Tokyo after 41 years, will now play against Australia on August 2 in the next match of Pool B. The Indian team defeated New Zealand 3-2 in its first match. Then it played a 1-1 draw against Argentina. After this, the Indian team defeated Ireland 2-0 in the third match. Apart from India, Pool B has New Zealand, Argentina, Ireland, Belgium and Australia. Pool A includes Netherlands, Germany, Britain, Spain, South Africa and host country France. Four teams each from both the groups are going to reach the quarter-finals.
