Indian Army’s unique step in Jammu and Kashmir, started a new initiative to fight terrorism

The Indian Army in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) has launched an initiative to train Village Defence Guards (VDGs) to enhance the security of local communities. The aim of this initiative is to teach these citizens the skills required to protect their villages, thereby strengthening the security structure of the entire region.

About 600 men are currently undergoing training in the operation of automatic rifles, squad post drills, and short tactics. This training is being given at the unit level near their villages, so that the VDGs can immediately apply their skills in real situations. Each VDG unit is being given at least three days of intensive training.

The training is being led by various units of the Indian Army, while training and training equipment is also being provided by the Corps Battle School, Sarol. This ensures that the VDGs are trained by experienced and skilled personnel, thereby enhancing their skills further.

Under this training program, Village Defence Guards (VDGs) are being given special knowledge of automatic weapons as well as tactical operations. Its aim is to ensure security at the local level while countering terrorist threats.

This initiative has been started at the request of Jammu and Kashmir Police and has seen good progress. So far, around 500 people have been trained in Rajouri region, while an additional 85-90 people have been trained in Doda and Kishtwar regions.

Along with this, self-loading rifles (SLRs) are also being provided to the VDGs in coordination with the Army’s Ordnance Depot and JKP. These rifles are important weapons for the VDGs, making them more empowered. This initiative is an important initiative towards ensuring the safety of the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir.
