‘India has imposed the national anthem of Bangladesh’, Jamaat demanded to change it, Yunus Sarkar responded

Bangladesh’s religious affairs adviser AFM Khaled Hossain said on Saturday that the interim government has no plans to change Bangladesh’s national anthem. “The interim government will not do anything to create controversy,” Hossain told the media after visiting the Islamic Foundation in Rajshahi and attending a gathering of dignitaries.

Earlier this week, Abdullahil Aman Azmi, son of former Amir Ghulam Azam of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, had called for changes in the country’s national anthem and constitution. Khalid Hussain has given this statement in response to his statement.

The Jamaat leader had raised this demand

Aman Azmi had said, “I leave the matter of the national anthem to this government. Our current national anthem is contrary to our existence of independent Bangladesh. It reflects the times of Bengal partition and merger of two Bengals. How can a national anthem created to unite two Bengals become the national anthem of an independent Bangladesh? This national anthem was imposed on us by India in 1971. Many songs can serve as national anthems. The government should form a new commission to select a new national anthem.”

Religious Affairs Advisor AFM Khalid Hussain said that as a neighbouring country, Bangladesh wants friendly relations with India.

Those who attack places of worship are enemies of humanity- Hussain

“We have heard reports of attacks on our cricket team in India. Since the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is in charge, they will decide on the necessary action,” Khaled Hossain was quoted as saying by the Dhaka Tribune.

Describing the attacks on mosques, temples and religious places as “heinous”, Hussain said: “Those who attack places of worship are enemies of humanity. They are criminals and will be prosecuted under existing laws. Hussain further said that local citizens and madrasa students will protect temples during Durga Puja to prevent any attacks or vandalism.

He said, “Madrasa students were never involved in terrorism. It was propaganda and conspiracy by the previous government.” The advisor said that after the change of government, there have been attacks on the houses of some members of the Hindu community, just as Muslim houses were attacked and this should not be seen differently.
