In Sudan, paramilitary forces killed 85 people, looted and set fire to the village

A big news has come from Sudan. Here on Saturday, paramilitary group fighters attacked a village in which at least 85 people including women and children were killed. Houses were set on fire and there was heavy vandalism. Officials said that this is the most dangerous incident of the conflict that has been going on for the last 18 months. Sudan’s Foreign Ministry said that more than 150 villagers were injured in this attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Force (RSF).

Let us tell you that since the war started in April last year, RSF has been repeatedly accused of genocide, rape and other serious violations across the country. According to the report, referring to this incident, 3 villagers said that hundreds of RSF fighters entered the village and surrounded the area and fired and looted for hours. According to the AP report, more than 80 bodies were seen in the hospital, including 24 women and minors.

Let us tell you that the situation in Sudan is getting worse day by day. According to the International Organization for Migration, more than 10.7 million people have been forced to flee their homes since the fighting began. More than 2 million of them have fled to neighboring countries.

All this fighting in Sudan is between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Force (RSF). It started on April 15 last year, when the conflict between army commander General Abdel-Fattah Burhan and RSF chief General Mohammed Hamdan Daglo reached its peak. But its roots are linked to April 2019. At that time, the public revolted against the then President of Sudan, Omar al-Bashir. In October 2021, the army overthrew al-Bashir’s government. The conflict continued despite Bashir being ousted from power.

Later, an agreement was reached between the army and the protesters. Under the agreement, a Sovereignty Council was formed. General Burhan became the chairman of the council and General Daglo became the vice-chairman. This council decided that elections would be held at the end of October 2023. But gradually a rift began between the two generals. This rift turned into a war when the army and paramilitary forces came face to face in the capital Khartoum. Both had deployed armored vehicles and tanks and started firing at each other.

Sudan’s army has about three lakh soldiers, while RSF has more than one lakh soldiers. RSF is strongest in Darfur. Let us tell you that Sudan has a long history of civil war and unrest. Civil war broke out in this country even before independence.
