‘If you are thinking of stopping caste census, then you are dreaming’, Rahul Gandhi targeted PM Modi

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has once again cornered the Modi government on the issue of caste census. Sharing a survey of India Today on the social media platform ‘X’, Rahul Gandhi said, ‘Modi ji, if you are thinking of stopping the caste census, then you are dreaming. No power can stop it now! The order of Hindustan has come – soon 90% of Indians will support and demand caste census. Implement the order now, or you will see the next Prime Minister doing it.’

In fact, a survey conducted by India Today revealed that 74 percent of the people of the country are in support of caste census. Let us tell you that in the Lok Sabha elections also, leaders of many opposition parties including Rahul Gandhi had raised the demand for caste census. Recently, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh had advised the central government that the government can also collect data of OBC castes by adding an additional column during the census.

Rahul Gandhi raised questions from Miss India to the cricket team?

Recently, Rahul Gandhi demanded caste census and said that I saw the list of former Miss India, but did not find any Dalit, tribal or OBC among the winners. He said, ‘Some people will talk about cricket or Bollywood. No one will show the cobbler or plumber. Even the top anchors in the media are not from 90 percent.

The Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha said, “We want to know how many people are in the 90 per cent in institutions, corporates, Bollywood, Miss India. I am only saying that 90 per cent people do not have ‘participation’ and this should be stopped.”

Why is the demand rising

Actually, the census does not reveal how many people belong to which caste. Right now, only the figures of scheduled castes and tribes are available. OBC castes are not counted. The purpose behind the demand for caste census is that the caste should get reservation as per its population. On the other hand, the argument against it is that if the OBC population is found to be higher in the census, then the demand for more reservation will arise. Right now OBCs get 27 percent reservation. This reservation is given on the basis of the last caste census conducted in 1931. In 1990, the Mandal Commission had estimated the OBC population to be 52 percent on the basis of 1931.
