If Ukraine attacks Kursk nuclear power plant, the damage will be more than Chernobyl… Experts warn

Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said that no nuclear power plant should be the target of any military operation. If Ukraine attacks the Kursk nuclear power plant, the devastation will be huge. It will be an atomic accident.

On the other hand, Dr. Chris Busby, Scientific Secretary of the European Committee on Radiation Risk, said that if the Ukrainian army attacked the Kursk nuclear plant, the accident here would be no less than Chernobyl. It could be worse. Grossi said that the plant is very weak. It does not have a protective dome, that is, a concrete wall that can protect it from missile or drone attacks.

Dr. Busby said that actually Jeporozhye Nuclear Power Plant has a pressurized water reactor. It also has a thick concrete wall as a security cover. It will not be easy to pierce it. But its spent fuel pools, that is, the place where the used fuel is kept, can be attacked. That too is a dangerous spot for spreading radiation.

If we talk about Kursk Nuclear Power Plant, there are RBMK reactors here, like the ones in Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. There is no thick concrete wall or protective shield around them. Therefore, a missile or drone attack on them can be dangerous. They will destroy the reactor.

Missile fell on Kursk, which means there is a huge risk of radiation

Busby said that the reactors in Zaporozhye are closed but a plant in Kursk is still working. Information is being received continuously that Ukraine is attacking the area around the plant with missiles and drones. It is also targeting the plant. If the plant is damaged, many European countries may have to face radiation. Because a cruise missile will destroy the nuclear reactor.

After this, NATO will not be able to save Europe. Because as soon as the missile falls, there will be a nuclear explosion. On the other hand, Grossi has confirmed that reactor number three is working in the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant. Maintenance of the fourth one is going on. A new reactor block is also being constructed.
