West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met the family members of the deceased female doctor in the RG Kar Medical Hospital case in Kolkata. CM Mamata went to her house to meet the family members and talked to them to know about their well-being. Mamata Banerjee reached the residence of the post-graduate trainee at around 12.45 pm. Mamata Banerjee spoke to the parents and family members of the deceased.
Amid nationwide protests over the Kolkata rape-murder case, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday issued a stern warning to the police that if they fail to solve the case by Sunday (August 18), she will hand over the case to the CBI.

He said, “We have deployed dog squad, video department and forensic department to investigate the case. If Kolkata Police is unable to solve the case by Sunday, we will hand it over to the CBI.”
CM Mamata said that this is a very painful incident, whoever is involved in this case should be punished immediately. We want that the hearing of this case should be done quickly, because then the judicial process will be faster. I am shocked that this incident happened despite the presence of nurses and security personnel in the hospital.
He further said, “I have told the police that the victim’s parents have also said that someone from inside is involved in this, we have removed the Principal, Head of Department, Medical Superintendent cum Vice-Principal (MSVP) and ASP from this hospital.”
Describing the incident as “extremely painful” and “shocking”, Banerjee said the victim’s parents have alleged that an insider was also involved in the crime.
Countrywide protests against the case
The body of a female post-graduate trainee who was allegedly raped and murdered in the seminar hall of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was recovered on Friday morning. A civilian was arrested in this connection on Saturday. Now protests are being held at different places across the country regarding this case and a CBI inquiry is being demanded.
Members of the Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) of AIIMS, Delhi put forward six demands, including handing over the investigation of the case to the CBI, strict action against the culprits and adequate compensation to the victim’s family.
