‘If I had my way, I would have strangled Masood Azhar…’, the story of IC 814 hijacking in the words of the officer who took him from jail to the airport

Netflix’s IC-814 web series has come under controversy. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued a notice regarding this series based on the Kandahar plane hijacking incident. Meanwhile, the then DIG of Jammu and Kashmir SP Vaidya has talked to Aaj Tak and told the whole story of IC 814 hijacking. He has also told about taking terrorist Masood Azhar from jail to the airport. SP Vaidya said that Masood Azhar was in Kot Bhalwal jail. He was taken to Jammu. If I had my way, I would have strangled him and killed him. At that time my blood was boiling.

SP Vaidya has also been the DGP of Jammu and Kashmir. This whole story is of 24 December 1999. Terrorist Masood Azhar was released on 31 December 1999, seven days after the plane hijacking. The then DIG SP Vaidya was ordered to release Maulana Masood Azhar from Kot Bhalwal Jail and take him to Jammu Technical Airport. On the IC-814 hijacking, Dr. SP Vaidya said, I was called to the police headquarters and asked to go to Kot Bhalwal Jail to release Maulana Masood Azhar. It was surprising to know that our government has bowed down to the terrorists. This was the most shameful moment for the country. When I went to the jail, I asked the jail superintendent to release him.

If I had my way…

Vaidya further says that Maulana Masood Azhar was released. I ordered the soldiers to cover his face with a monkey cap. Masood Azhar refused. I scolded him and forced him to kneel down and forced him to wear a monkey cap. National and international media was standing outside the jail. Masood Azhar’s body language was arrogant. We covered his face and took him to Technical Airport Jammu. If I had my way, I would not have let him go alive. I would have strangled him and killed him. But I was an officer bound by duty, I had to hand him over to the Foreign Ministry officials at Jammu Technical Airport. I was very sad that day. We should not have let him go.

I have never felt so disappointed in my life…

SP Vaidya was seen extremely disappointed remembering the release of terrorist Maulana Masood Azhar. He said, I have never felt so disappointed in my life. This whole incident has been troubling for me throughout my life. Our country had to pay a heavy price by releasing him. Before the IC-814 hijacking, there were many conspiracies to release Masood Azhar from Kot Bhalwal jail. Once a group of 7 terrorists had conspired to attack Kot Bhalwal jail so that Masood Azhar could escape. We already had the input and we successfully killed those terrorists.

A tunnel was dug to escape Masood

Vaidya says that another attempt was also made. A tunnel was dug in the jail to escape Masood Azhar. We were successful in foiling that attempt as well. SP Vaidya said that there were many officers in the system who were in cahoots with the terrorists. Otherwise a tunnel would not have been dug in the jail to escape Masood Azhar. Unfortunately there are such corrupt people in the system who can even sell the country. We could not handle the crisis created due to the IC-814 hijacking. Our incompetent bureaucracy could not do anything. They messed up and put the country in great embarrassment.

‘Wrong facts cannot be presented’

Let us tell you that the central government said about the IC-814 web series, facts cannot be presented in a wrong way. Emotions cannot be played with. Research should be correct and facts should be investigated. The government asked why the captions were not used repeatedly to reveal the real names of the hijackers. Why were the hijackers shown strong and the officers weak? Netflix said that it will take care of national security from now on. It is alleged that terrorists have been addressed with Hindu names in this web series. Boycott trend is also being run on social media regarding this.
