ICC Test Rankings 2024: Big earthquake in ICC rankings, Babar Azam falls flat on his face… Virat Kohli-Yashasvi Jaiswal get bumper benefit without playing

There has been a big upheaval in the ICC (International Cricket Council) Test rankings. In the ICC rankings released on Wednesday (28 August), Babar Azam has now slipped 6 places to the ninth position. At the same time, there has been a jump in the rankings of Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The reason for Babar Azam’s downfall was the recent test match held in Rawalpindi. In this test match, Babar scored 0 runs in the first innings and 22 runs in the second innings. Pakistan lost this test match by 10 wickets.

On the other hand, Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal have got bumper benefits without playing any Test match. Virat Kohli has now climbed 2 places to reach number eight in the latest ICC rankings. Yashasvi Jaiswal has also climbed 1 place to reach number seven. Joe Root is the number 1 batsman of this format with 881 rating points. Harry Brook has jumped 3 places to reach number four.

Mohammad Rizwan jumped seven places and reached the 10th position after scoring a century in the Rawalpindi Test match, achieving a new career high rating. Pakistan’s vice-captain Saud Shakeel is also not far behind him, he has jumped one place to reach the 13th position due to his century against Bangladesh.

Bangladesh right-handed batsman Mushfiqur Rahim has achieved a career-best rating as he jumped seven places to 17th, while Sri Lanka’s Dinesh Chandimal (up four places to 23rd) and Kamindu Mendis (up eight places to 36th) and England debutant Jamie Smith (up 22 places to 42nd) have also moved up in the Test batsmen’s rankings.

Ashwin is the number 1 spinner
In the Test bowlers’ rankings, Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin remains at the top. At the same time, spinner Prabhat Jayasuriya has moved up one place to ninth for Sri Lanka after taking five wickets against England in Manchester. England fast bowler Chris Woakes (up four places to 16th) and Sri Lanka’s Asitha Fernando (up 10 places to 17th) have also gained, while Pakistan’s right-arm bowler Naseem Shah (up four places to 33rd) and England’s Gus Atkinson (up four places to 42nd) have achieved their career-best ratings after their good performances recently.

Jadeja is the number 1 test all-rounder
Chris Woakes has also improved one place to reach eighth position in the list of Test all-rounders, while Indian spinner Ravindra Jadeja is at the top of this category.
