I was implicated in a ‘false and fabricated story’, arrest completely illegal: Kejriwal told the High Court

Arvind Kejriwal

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal is in jail under judicial custody.

Arvind Kejriwal , Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is in jail in the excise policy case, told the Delhi High Court on Tuesday that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has implicated him in a ‘fake story’ and his arrest is ‘completely illegal’. In fact, the ED has filed an application in the court to cancel the bail granted to Kejriwal. Kejriwal argued while opposing this application of the ED. On June 20, the Rouse Avenue Court granted bail to Kejriwal. The ED is demanding the cancellation of this bail. Kejriwal’s reply has been filed in the court against this application.

Hearing will be held on July 15

On Wednesday, the High Court bench of Justice Neena Bansal Krishna fixed July 15 as the date for hearing this petition. She also gave time to ED to respond to Kejriwal’s allegations. It is worth noting that Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 in the money laundering case related to the excise policy. Kejriwal has got bail from the lower court in this case but the High Court has stayed it. Kejriwal is currently in judicial custody.

ED sought time to respond

Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for Kejriwal, mentioned the matter before the court and said that a definite time should be fixed for the hearing as there is extreme urgency in the matter. However, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, appearing for the ED, argued that the investigating agency had received a copy of Kejriwal’s reply only late on Tuesday night and they needed some time to read the reply and file a rejoinder. Raju said that the documents should be handed over to the lawyer pleading the case and not to the investigating officer.

ED wants to postpone the hearing of the case-Singhvi

Opposing the ED’s argument, Kejriwal’s lawyer requested the court to hear the petition on Wednesday itself. He alleged that the ED wants to delay the hearing of the case. However, the High Court said that it cannot be denied that the ED received a copy of the reply on Tuesday and it has to file a reply on it. The court gave time to the ED to file a reply and listed the petition for further hearing on July 15.
