I have been to France more than a dozen times. Skip Paris and visit these 5 must-visit cities instead.

Over the past few years, I have fallen in love with France and all it has to offer.

I live just a four-hour train or ferry ride from France, so I’ve been able to visit the country 14 times so far.

Paris has a lot to offer though — the French capital’s name being one of them Top cities for international travelers in 2023 – There are other amazing cities worth visiting in the country.

Here are my top five recommendations.

Lyon is home to approximately 400 underground passages known as treboules.

A piece of my heart definitely belongs to Leon. From the beautiful winding streets and mouth-watering food, there’s a lot to love about the city Lively nightlife scene.

I also found the people there very friendly. When I traveled to Lyon with my best friend, we found that many of the locals we interacted with were happy to share tips and ask us how our day was.

There is also plenty to do in the city. I recommend exploring Trebouls, a vast network of hidden passages that have been around for many years.

Historic tunnels and stairs played a role in France’s silk trade and World War II – and about 50 of the approximately 400 passageways in Lyon are still open to the public.

Bordeaux has an excellent food and wine scene.

In my experience, Bordeaux France has the best food and red wine. Since I was there for a few days, I had time to venture into the Bordeaux wine region and take a vineyard tour at the stunning Château Pape Clement.

I also recommend taking time to visit a market like the Marche des Capucins, where I joined the locals to sample fresh food and wine.

Nice offered a great balance of relaxation, history and culture.

France’s magnificent southeastern coastal city did not disappoint, offering my friend and I a great balance of relaxation, history, and culture.

Very much except for one or two tourist destinations (We’re looking at you beach clubs), we found that nightlife is still generally cheaper in the UK than back home.

In five days, we visited four different beaches, all of which were easy to reach by train. We also took a trip to the spectacular medieval village of Ize on the hill, which was one. The most beautiful places I have never been

In the evening, we enjoyed delicious food, headed to the bar and drank wine on the beach after the sun went down.

Marseille is a lively port city.

A stunning port city, Marseille is known for its artistic influences and seafood-centric cuisine. Go there for fun Traditional French dishes Like bouillabaisse (a hearty seafood soup), beautiful beaches and nightlife.

When I visited with family, I especially fell in love with the old town of Marseille. The city is very walkable and I would recommend wandering the streets, stopping occasionally for delicious food and drinks.

Rouen is full of beautiful architecture.

Rouen, the capital of Normandy, has some of the most beautiful architecture I have ever seen.

About two hours outside of Paris, this city has impressive historic buildings, delicious eateries and great shopping.

Of course, no trip to Rouen would be complete without a visit to the Joan of Arc Museum. Whether you know much about it or not, the interactive nature of the museum is what makes it most appealing.
